Harlow J. Miner, Jr. joined the Westinghouse Electric Corp. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, following his graduation from South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã State College. He began his engineering career at the Aviation Gas Turbine Division in Kansas City. In 1960, he transferred to the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Westinghouse Defense Center in Baltimore, Maryland. From 1962 to 1964 he designed and tested the cooling system for a large shipboard radar system and participated in the initial sea trials. In 1965, Miner moved to the Radar Surveillance Department and began a nearly 30 year career in tactical radar systems. He was involved in the design, development and production of a number of ground tactical surveillance radar systems for the U.S. military and foreign military. He was a member of the design teams that designed and produced a number of air traffic control radars including the long-range enroute radars and the airport surveillance radars. After promotion to Advisory Engineer, Miner was responsible for the preliminary mechanical systems design for a variety of ground based, shipboard and airborne surveillance radar systems. Miner retired from Westinghouse Electric Corp. in 1994 after nearly 41 years of service. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Institute of Aeronautics for over forty years. He was a registered professional engineer in the state of Maryland.
