Hoops' term of office was the shortest of any president except G.L. Brown. He arrived in August 1984 from North à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã State University ready to begin work, but encountered difficulties with the South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã Board of Regents. He had high hopes of increasing faculty pay, but wound up embroiled in a mess that involved a faculty member's testimony in the State Senate. According to Hoops, he was told to fire the individual, but he refused. Hoops resigned in March, 1985.
