  • SDSU to offer new, future-focused healthcare systems engineering major effective fall 2025

    South 啵啵直播秀 State University will offer a Bachelor of Science in healthcare systems engineering beginning fall 2025 following South 啵啵直播秀 Board of Regents approval on Dec. 12. Healthcare systems engineering is a unique, first-in-the-nation undergraduate degree, which will integrate engineering, computer science, data science and health sciences under one degree to prepare students for the emerging career fields.

    A pair of South 啵啵直播秀 State University researchers are modeling the flow of liquid argon through the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) being built a mile under South 啵啵直播秀鈥檚 Black Hills.

  • Liu honored by engineering educators

    Yucheng Liu, head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering, has become a Distinguished Member of the American Society for Engineering Education.
    He is in the first cohort to receive the title as this is a new designation for the organization, which seeks to advance engineering education at all levels of the profession. Liu has been a member since 2011 and has held offices in the organization since 2019.

  • Class gets firsthand look at renewable natural gas facility

    Seniors in Michael Twedt鈥檚 Renewable Energy Systems class got a close look at what it takes to bring renewable natural gas to a viable market during a tour of NorthWestern Energy鈥檚 renewable natural gas receipt facility at the north edge of Brookings Nov. 19.
    The 24 mechanical engineering majors got an opportunity to 鈥渟ee the working systems that we discuss in class,鈥 Twedt said. That included monitoring equipment to ensure the methane that originates at area diaries has been processed to pipeline quality and odorizing equipment to give odorless gas its rotten egg smell.

  • Retired SD astronaut Gemar visits campus

    Charles D. 鈥淪am鈥 Gemar, the only South 啵啵直播秀-born astronaut, visited the South 啵啵直播秀 State University campus Oct. 4 at the invitation of an SDSU official.
    Gemar is originally of Scotland and is a 1973 graduate of Scotland High School. He joined the Army out of high school and got an appointment to a military prep school. That opened the door for an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy. He flew military aircraft before being accepted into NASA鈥檚 astronaut training program.

  • New CNC machines to open doors for students

    Patience is a virtue, but when it comes to working in a production lab, speed and precision rate pretty high too.
    Thanks to an anonymous gift, Lohr College of Engineering has been able to buy six new CNC (computer numerical control) machines valued at $120,000. The machines arrived and were installed in the production lab of the Chicoine Architecture, Mathematics and Engineering Hall in September.

  • Rising star: Basu invited to prestigious engineering showcase

    Saikat Basu, assistant professor in South 啵啵直播秀 State University's Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been invited to the American Society of Mechanical Engineering Rising Stars of Mechanical Engineering Celebration and Showcase.
