SDSU to host Speech Communication Association conference
The Speech Communication Association of South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã will hold its annual conference on South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã State University’s campus July 24-25.
Changing the journalism narrative
The field of journalism has had hard criticisms in recent years. One individual is looking to change that through the power of books … and her cat. Miranda O’Bryan is a Martin native and a 2020 graduate from the South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã State University School of Communication and Journalism and School of American and Global Studies. She also held the title of Miss South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã 2023, where she used her platform for awareness of literacy rates and addressing the misconceptions of the journalism field.
Inaugural season for South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã Chamber Winds
A group of woodwind-focused musicians descended on South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã State University's campus for a week-long, music-making endeavor that culminated with a series of concerts in late May. The unique musical opportunity — called South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã Chamber Winds — was organized by Elizabeth Robinson, assistant professor of music in SDSU's School of Performing Arts.
Earnest selected as dean of SDSU College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
David C. Earnest, the Odeen-Swanson Distinguished Professor and chair of the Department of Political Science at the University of South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã, has been named dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã State University. Earnest was selected following a national search and will begin working on the SDSU campus July 8.
Baggett shares Jack London expertise through research, symposium
Paul Baggett, associate professor and graduate coordinator of English in the South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã State University School of English and Interdisciplinary Studies, can call himself more than just a Jack London fan. Years of his academic inquiry have been dedicated to London’s life and works, and to the impact of all of it on the humanities.

The South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã Chamber Winds has announced its inaugural season, with a woodwind festival planned for later this month.
SDSU reps recognized with FFA honorary degrees, distinguished service awards
South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã State University leaders and faculty were among the honorees as the South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã FFA Honorary State Degrees and Distinguished Service à£à£Ö±²¥Ðãs were presented at the 96th annual South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã State FFA Convention on April 19 in Brookings.
