Campanile in the Winter

Monday Message, March 10

Barry H. Dunn, SDSU President
Barry H. Dunn, President

SDSU Community,

Today marks the first day of spring break on campus, and with it comes a glimpse of springtime weather in Brookings. I hope this week provides everyone an opportunity to recharge, catch up on projects and prepare for the final two months of the academic year. Commencement will be here before we know it, and we are excited to celebrate the accomplishments of our graduating students alongside their families and friends.

With most of our students away from campus, it will undoubtedly be a quieter week. However, there is still much to recognize, especially given the outstanding performances of our athletics teams over the past week.

Congratulations to our women鈥檚 basketball team for capturing its third consecutive Summit League Tournament Championship over the weekend at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls. The team鈥檚 continued dedication and hard work was evident throughout the tournament, and Jackrabbit Nation is incredibly proud of the athletes鈥 accomplishment. Next will be the NCAA Women鈥檚 Basketball Tournament, where they will learn their destination and first-round opponent during Sunday鈥檚 Selection Show. We look forward to cheering them on as they continue their season on the national stage.

I also want to extend congratulations to our Jackrabbits wrestling team for an impressive third-place finish at the Big 12 Conference Championships this past weekend. It was a tremendous showing for our student-athletes and coaching staff, with seven wrestlers qualifying for the NCAA Championships. There remains a possibility for a couple additional at-large bids to be awarded, and we wish them all the best as they prepare for the national tournament later this month.

SDSU's Civil Service Advisory Council will host their annual mass meeting this Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in Club 71. I strongly encourage all Civil Service employees to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to attend and celebrate the great work you do each day.

Just a reminder that Thursday, our Facilities and Services team will host a virtual information session via Zoom to share updates on upcoming construction projects. It is a great opportunity for members of our campus community to learn more about planned improvements and the potential impact they may have during the summer months. Additional details, including the Zoom link, are provided below. I encourage anyone interested to join the session and stay informed about the future of our campus.

This week is also the final full week of the South 啵啵直播秀 Legislative Session in Pierre. There is still significant work to be done, particularly in finalizing the state budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1. Our team continues to monitor discussions and developments that could impact South 啵啵直播秀 State University and higher education in our state. We remain hopeful for a budget that helps support the continued success of our university and provides the greatest opportunities for our students, faculty and staff. I appreciate the work of our state leaders and the South 啵啵直播秀 Board of Regents in advocating for higher education priorities during this session.

I hope everyone has a restful and enjoyable week, whether you are traveling, spending time with loved ones, or simply catching up on work. Thank you for all that you do to make South 啵啵直播秀 State University a premier land-grant institution, and I look forward to welcoming everyone back to campus next week as we continue our journey toward a successful conclusion to the academic year.

Go Jacks!
