Monday Message, Nov. 12

Greetings!

A short week on campus begins after the Veterans Day holiday, a time when we remember and recognize all who served our country. I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend and was able to spend some time with family and friends.

We are getting to that time of the semester where it is hard to believe we are only a little more than four weeks away from finals. I am extremely honored to work with so many dedicated faculty and staff members who have helped our students be successful and reach their academic potential during the first couple months of the academic year. Thank you for everything you do, and I look forward to a strong finish to the semester.

November is also an important month as we complete the free application period for high school students. The number of students who have applied to SDSU for admission next fall continues to be strong, and a lot of work by the admissions team and others will occur to yield those individuals into enrolled students next fall.

Last Friday, the Van D. and Barbara B. Fishback Honors College hosted its Honors Visit Day for students who are looking for the honors college experience. Thank you to everyone who helped those students learn more about SDSU.

Finally, congratulations to our Jackrabbits soccer team for capturing the Summit League Conference tournament championship with a 3-1 win over Oral Roberts, Sunday. It is the programā€™s second consecutive tournament title and ninth overall conference championship. The team will next face the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the first round of the NCAA tournament in Minneapolis on Friday.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week. I will be traveling to Rapid City this week for meetings with alumni, the Jackrabbits Nursing Social and the men's basketball game on Thursday night. I look forward to conversations with colleagues and friends West River.

Thank you again for your work efforts to make SDSU a premier land-grant university.

Sincerely,

Barry H. Dunn, President

Above and Beyond

Above and Beyond recognizes individuals and groups of South ą£ą£Ö±²„Šć State University employees, faculty and students for individual and team efforts that go Above and Beyond to make the campus community a better place. This week we recognize those involved in the production of ā€œAgDay College Roadshow.ā€

ā€œAgDayā€ is a daily program focused on farmers and ranchers and provides news, weather and business headlines. The show produced an episode on campus Oct. 30, and it aired Nov. 1.

ā€œAgDay College Roadshowā€ simulates the campus excitement of ESPNā€™s ā€œCollege GameDay,ā€ but instead of athletics, it visits college campuses to focus on the significance and importance of agriculture.

The show was hosted by Farm Journal editor and ā€œAgDayā€ host Clinton Griffiths, who was joined by national reporter and markets expert Michelle Rook, an SDSU alum.

The broadcast featured faculty from the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences and the Ness School of Management and Economics. Over 100 students cheered along throughout the broadcast from the Raven Precision Agriculture Center.

Thank you to all involved in showcasing SDSU on this stage. Specifically, thank you to Joseph Cassady, David Clay, Kasiviswanathan Muthukumarappan, Joe Santos, Anne Fennell, Warren Rusche, Eric Weaver, Matthew Elliott and Skye Brugler.

Many others assisted behind the scenes in this production including Brian Langum, Jesse Enstad, Tori Bjorke, Austin Buysse, Maggan Froseth and Kristen Smith.

Finally, thank you to Don and Kay Norton for their coordination of this exciting showcase of SDSU.
