Monday Message, Nov. 18

SDSU Community 鈥

The last full week of November before the Thanksgiving Day holiday feels a little more like late fall than the warmer temperatures we enjoyed throughout the month. We were fortunate to have such a beautiful fall to date.

Last week the university issued a news release that touted Brookings as the No. 2 most affordable college town in the United States. There are certainly several factors that go into these studies, but it reflects the effort of many to provide the greatest value and affordability for those students who attend SDSU.

I certainly appreciate everyone who has worked in this area to maintain our tremendous relationship with the city of Brookings, the South 啵啵直播秀 Board of Regents and others throughout the state that understand and value the importance of affordability in higher education. Creating those opportunities for students to earn a degree at SDSU and enter the workforce with as minimal debt as possible only reinforces our land-grant mission of providing access to the benefits of higher education.

The Center for Professional Enrichment and Teaching Excellence and Jacks Cupboard are hosting the annual Pack-the-Pantry through the end of this week. This is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and make a positive impact of the lives of students who are fighting food insecurity. Desired donation items include hygienic items, warm drink packets, baking supplies, breakfast goods, snacks, etc. The President's Office will house a collection box for donations this week, or you can bring them to Jacks Cupboard during their hours of operation.

My office sent out information last week about our annual Office of the President Holiday Party. It will be held Dec. 3 from 3-5:30 p.m. in Woster Celebration Hall at the SDSU Alumni Center. Jane and I hope that you will be able to attend and enjoy time with colleagues and friends.

Congratulations to the volleyball team for earning at least a share of the Summit League regular season championship. It is the first championship for the program since winning the Summit League regular season and tournament championships in 2007. The team will finish its regular season tomorrow at South 啵啵直播秀 and begin Summit League tournament play next Monday in Kansas City.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week. Thank you for all that you do to make SDSU such a wonderful place.

Sincerely,

Barry H. Dunn, President
