Pre-Professional Training

Pre-athletic training is a pre-professional curriculum whereby all the necessary prerequisites can be completed in preparation for applying to a masters of athletic training program. SDSU currently has two tracks for admissions into our Masters of Science athletic training program, Traditional and Accelerated (3+2). The pre-occupational therapy program is a pre-professional curriculum whereby all the necessary prerequisites can be completed in preparation for applying to a school of occupational therapy. The department provides advising to assist each student.

The pre-physical therapy program is a pre-professional curriculum whereby all the necessary prerequisites can be completed in preparation for applying to a school of physical therapy. The department provides advising to assist each student in developing a plan best suited to his/her needs.

Undergraduate Programs

Students receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in aviation can choose between an aviation education specialization or aviation maintenance management specialization.

The community and public health program is designed to prepare students in planning, implementing, delivering and evaluating health programs that will improve the quality of life of individuals, groups and communities. The program objectives are to facilitate the development of professional skills in methods and tools of public health data collection, use and analysis for evidence-based approaches to utilize in public health programming which will promote health across the life span.

Exercise science is the study of human movement performed to maintain or improve physical fitness. Exercise science graduates are well trained to assess, design and implement individual and group exercise and fitness programs for individuals who are healthy and those with controlled disease. Students will also be prepared to become a certified personal trainer, group exercise instructor and strength and conditioning specialist.

Students receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in fashion studies and retail merchandising have the opportunity to complete a summer practicum compatible with their career goals, as well as, participate in a travel study as part of their program requirements.

Students receiving a Bachelor of Science in hospitality, tourism and event management can focus their career in one of seven different areas within the industry.

Students receiving a Bachelor of Science in leadership and management of nonprofit organizations have the option of becoming a Certified Nonprofit Professional.

Dietetics is the high-tech science of applying food and nutrition to health. It is a vital, growing field open to creativity and opportunity. A Bachelor of Science in nutrition and dietetics, accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), is designed to prepare students to apply for a supervised practice experience (dietetic internship) and ultimately sit for the national registration exam to become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN).

The physical education teacher education major provides knowledge, skills and abilities to students who are interested in becoming physical education teachers in preK-12 schools. Coursework includes skill and fitness competencies classes designed to teach candidates how to teach the content that forms the basis of physical education in schools as well as refine their personal skills in those areas. Content also provides candidates with knowledge to develop curriculum, organize and administer physical education and sport programs, work with children with special/diverse needs, work in recreational settings and teach dance and health in preK-12 schools.

Sport and recreation management professionals are needed to meet recreation demands resulting from expanding populations, increased leisure time, greater mobility and changing social attitudes. The curriculum in Sport and Recreation Management is designed to prepare students for professional positions in sport, recreation, parks and outdoor recreation programming and administration.
