NSO Registration Information
Session sizes are limited and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
You can find the NSO Registration Form under the Forms section of the MyState portal Dashboard.

How to Register
- You will register for NSO through your . This is the same portal you would have used to complete the housing application.
Accessing MyState for the First Time
- You will need:
- Your Jacks username
- Your Jacks email password
NOTE: Both your username and how to get your password were emailed to you from the SDSU Admissions Office when you were admitted to the university. If you changed your password since receiving the email, please be sure to use your updated password to log in. If you have any issues accessing MyState, please reach out to the Support Desk at 605-688-6776.
After logging into MyState
- Click on the Dashboard tab and find the Forms section.
- In the Forms section, find the New Student Orientation Registration Form, which is typically a featured form at the top of the Forms list.
- Verify your major, select your date and complete the rest of the steps to finalize registration.
Once you've registered, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. Follow our social media posts to get yourself prepared to participate in your NSO session. Your final confirmation details will be sent via Jacks email a day or two prior to your session.
When can I sign up for NSO?
Registration will be available by early March. Students will sign in to their MyState account and access the New Student Orientation registration form to select an available date.
Will I get the classes I need if I come to a later session?
Yes. We engage the help of professional and academic advisors who are familiar with graduation requirements and major coursework to help our students build a schedule that comprises the classes they need.
How can I make changes to my registration?
If any of your information has changed since you registered for NSO, including major, contact information or accommodation needs, please notify us prior to your session if possible. You can reach Orientation at 605-688-6283 or via email.
What should I do if I can't make it to any of the scheduled NSO dates?
Please do your best to make arrangements to attend New Student Orientation. Completion of an Orientation program is required prior to course registration.
Can I attend Orientation with a friend?
Absolutely. We recommend that you sign up for your session at the same time as they do fill up on a first-come, first-served basis.
