Science and Engineering Fair Application Materials

Application Materials

  1. Decide on your research project.
  2. Fill out Eastern South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã Science and Engineering Fair forms and give them to your teacher.
  3. If your project requires preapproval, all Eastern South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã Science and Engineering Fair forms must be sent to SDSU for review before you can start experimenting. . Your project must be submitted for preapproval before Feb. 17, 2023, or two weeks before your local fair, whichever is first.
  4. Start your experiment.
  5. Compete in local school fair (if your school has one).
  6. Find out if you are bringing your project to the Eastern South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã Science and Engineering Fair.
  7. Once you confirm that you are able to come to the Eastern South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã Science and Engineering Fair,
  8. Submit all appropriate Eastern South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã Science and Engineering Fair forms to website for final approval before competition.
  9. Category descriptions will help you decide where and how your project will be judged.

If your project requires prior approval by the Scientific Review Committee and/or Institutional Review Board, teachers must send the Eastern South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã Science and Engineering Fair forms before you can start your experiment, and the materials must be submitted or two weeks before your local fair, which ever is first (the earlier the better). Projects that need prior approval involve human subjects (this includes student researchers), nonhuman vertebrate à£à£Ö±²¥Ðãs, pathogenic agents (all microbes, germs, fungi, mold, etc.), controlled substances, recombinant DNA, human tissue and/or à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã tissue (including eggs). If your not sure, ask! The Scientific Review Committee and Institutional Review Board must approve these projects before students begin their projects!

All projects (even those with preapproval) must submit their projects for final approval by the Scientific Review Committee before competition.


International Science and Engineering Fair Forms

In addition to completing the Eastern South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã Science and Engineering Fair application, students must also read and fill out the correct . Keep in mind that rules and forms change year to year so be sure to double check all information.

All projects require forms 1, 1A, Research Plan, and 1B. Submit additional forms for:

  • Animal projects: forms 3, 5A, 5B
  • Human projects: forms 3 and 4 (form 3 is not needed if all physical and psychological risks are covered in form 4) and Informed Consent Form
  • Microbes: forms 3 and 6A
  • Tissues (blood, saliva, urine): forms 4, Informed Consent Form, 6A, 6B
  • Tissues (eggs): forms 6A and 6B
