Biography

Geb (sounds like Jeb) Bastian is an assistant professor in the School of Health and Human Sciences, and SDSU's Extension nutrition and health state specialist. Dr. Bastian's research focuses on the evaluation of community-based nutrition education programming, particularly that which serves low-income youth and adolescents. He is the co-author of the Extension curriculum "Rev It Up!" which promotes healthy nutrition and physical activity behaviors to high schoolers from low-income households. Dr. Bastian is the co-chair of the Agricultural Experiment Station Multistate Research Group NC3169: EFNEP-Related Research, Program Evaluation, and Outreach. Moreover, he is the Nutrition Discipline Head at the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) Clinic, part of the University of South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã Sanford School of Medicine's Center for Disabilities.

Dr. Bastian is a graduate faculty member for the M.S. and Ph.D. programs in nutrition and exercise science. At this time, Dr. Bastian has no available graduate assistantships for prospective graduate students. Current SDSU undergraduates interested in research with Dr. Bastian should contact him directly.

Dr. Bastian has helped secure over $2.7 million in research and Extension funding for SDSU, including funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã Community Foundation, Frozen Food Foundation and the Center for Nutrition and Health Impact (formerly the Gretchen Swanson Center for Nutrition).
