AI in Higher Education Spring Forum

Join your colleagues from across campus for an dialogue and conversation focused on the impact and role of Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education. We are pleased to be joined by Dr. Samuel Jay, Executive Director of Digital Learning and Professor of Rhetoric and Public Culture, at Metropolitan State University of Denver. The event takes place on Thursday, April 24 in the Student Union’s Volstorff Ballroom.
9:00 – 10:45 am – Faculty Workshop #1 – Teaching and Learning in the AI Era
This session will focus on supporting faculty with an interactive session focused on AI basics, teaching and developing effective AI prompts, setting student expectations for the use of AI, and the development of various types of assignments that thoughtfully integrate the AI influenced teaching and learning environment.
11:00 am – Deans, Directors, Departments Heads – AI in Higher Education: Implications and Q&A
University leadership is invited to join Dr. Samuel Jay for a relaxed conversation on AI. This session is intended, follow a brief overview presentation, to allow participants to ask questions and engage Dr. Jay regarding his thoughts on AI’s role within higher education.
11:45 am – 1:00 pm – Break
1:00 – 1:45 – Generative AI for Data Analysis
This session will introduce participants to the practical application of generative AI tools for data analysis in academic and administrative contexts. Dr. Jay will demonstrate how AI can assist with tasks such as synthesizing large datasets, generating insights, and producing visualizations. The session will emphasize both the opportunities and limitations of these tools, helping attendees understand when and how to effectively leverage AI for data-informed decision-making.
2:00 – 3:45 - Faculty Workshop #2 (Repeated Session) – Teaching and Learning in the AI Era
This session will focus on supporting faculty with an interactive session focused on AI basics, teaching and developing effective AI prompts, setting student expectations for the use of AI, and the development of various types of assignments that thoughtfully integrate the AI influenced teaching and learning environment.
4:00 – 4:45 pm – Generative AI for Automation
This session will explore how generative AI can be used to streamline workflows and automate routine tasks across higher education roles. Dr. Jay will walk through simple, accessible automation use cases that require little to no coding, showing how faculty, staff, and administrators can reclaim time and focus on higher-value work. Attendees will leave with ideas for integrating automation into their daily practice and resources to get started.
