Engineering takes to the streets of Sioux Falls
Friday, Sept. 20, presented an opportunity to showcase the college to around 270 eighth grade students from Whittier Middle School. The following Saturday, over 700 individuals ranging from 5 to 65-plus years old joined the college at the Washington Pavilion to see what the college had to offer.

START-SD team at SDSU begins work to address substance use disorder, support prisoner reentry
A team from the Community Practice Innovation Center at South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã State University has been awarded a $3 million grant to expand and facilitate services for individuals transitioning out of South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã prison systems. The grant, which comes from the Health Resources and Services Administration, will continue the START-SD (Stigma, Treatment, Avoidance and Recovery in Time) work on prevention, treatment and recovery for substance use disorder in South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã.
Utility group honors NorthWestern’s Sydow
Retired NorthWestern Energy general manager Mike Sydow has been awarded the 2024 Wayne E. Knabach Excellence in Power à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã.
The award is given by the Center for Power Systems Studies, a group of utilities and electrical firms that work with the electrical engineering department at South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã State University to promote the industry through and to students and faculty. The Knabach à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã is a lifetime achievement award named for a longtime electrical engineering professor.

South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã State University recently paid tribute to the university’s newest endowment holders. The third annual University Leadership Honors investiture ceremony — honoring six holders of endowed positions across three different colleges and SDSU Athletics — was held Sept. 19 in Founders Recital Hall in the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center.
Toronto to present recital with alum, fellow faculty
Mezzo-soprano Emily Wood Toronto will present a faculty recital on Monday, Oct. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Founders Recital Hall in the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center on the South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã State University campus.
