Dean Mary Anne Krogh

Our first #MeetSDStateNursing feature for fall 2019 is newly appointed dean, Mary Anne Krogh. Dean Krogh started her new role in July. She had been serving as Mount Martyā€™s dean of nursing and health sciences since June 2018. Prior to that she served as the clinical director and program director of its nurse anesthesia program since May 2011. During that time, she was promoted from assistant professor to associate professor and professor. Before starting at Mount Marty, she was the associate director for the Minneapolis School of Anesthesiaā€™s nurse anesthesia program.

Krogh has worked as a certified registered nurse anesthetist at Hennepin County Medical Center and North Memorial Medical Center and continues to do so with Avera McKennan Hospital. She has also taught at the Minneapolis School of Anesthesia and served as an adjunct and assistant professor at Saint Maryā€™s University of Minnesota.

Advice for students: Grab every opportunity while you are in school. You never know how those connections will help you along the way in your career.

Future Goals: My future goals include involvement with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing

Why did you choose to become a nurse? Initially, I wanted to be a physician so majored in biology. However, after working as a nursing assistant and witnessing the impact nursing had on people, I found my true calling. This is a decision I have never regretted.
