His oil pastel nocturnes, or evening scenes, capture the quiet allure of bypasses, junkyards, alleys and hotel signs鈥攕cenes glimpsed during evening strolls or drives. These pieces stand in stark contrast to Peterson's highly saturated watercolor streetscapes.
