Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Research Activities

SDSU boasts many research opportunities within the McComish Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and throughout the university. Our faculty perform cutting-edge research across various disciplines of electrical engineering, computer science and software engineering. We have particular strengths in three core areas: power and energy, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and sensors and systems. Power and Energy

Research in this area focuses on the generation, transmission, distribution and efficient utilization of electrical power. This includes renewable energy technologies (solar, wind, hydroelectric), energy storage solutions, smart grid development, power electronics and sustainable energy policies. Researchers work on improving energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions and developing innovative solutions for global energy challenges.

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

This field explores computational methods that enable systems to learn from data and improve performance without explicit programming. Research encompasses deep learning, neural networks, natural language processing, computer vision and reinforcement learning. Applications span across autonomous systems, predictive analytics, pattern recognition, optimization problems and decision support systems. Sensors and Systems
