A new art exhibition that explores the intersection of science, art and intuition will open Thursday, Oct. 24, in Lincoln Hall, located on the South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã State University campus.
The opening event will feature a reception from 2-4 p.m., which the public is invited to attend.
"The Art of Curiosity" features a diverse range of artworks from SDSU student and Bachelor of Fine Arts candidate Catherine Jones. Each piece aims to reflect a continuity of energy, juxtaposing man-made and natural materials. With playful experimentation, Jones connects people to science without it feeling like a formal lecture. Her works lend a legacy to the plants and found objects she gathers and processes.
"In the course of making these works, I began to remember who I am," Jones said. "In my youth, I was preoccupied with leaving a legacy. It never occurred to me that passions inform legacies. By allowing myself to do the things I love — foraging, collecting and analyzing — I discovered that unrealized legacies are everywhere. Science helps reveal the magic hidden in the mundane."
The exhibition will continue to be open to the public, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., until Dec. 18.
