‘Ravel and Jazz’ to feature renowned French pianist

The South ֱ State University School of Performing Arts will present cultural historian Joseph Horowitz and French classical pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet in a lecture-recital titled “Ravel and Jazz” on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 7:30 p.m. in the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center. 

Bavouzet is one of the world’s foremost interpreters of the piano music of Maurice Ravel and will demonstrate the role American jazz played in Ravel’s music. 

Bavouzet entered the international music scene after winning first prize in the International Beethoven Piano Competition. Since then, his recordings of music by composers Sergei Prokofiev, Claude Debussy, Bela Bartok and Ravel have received numerous awards from Gramophone, the BBC Music Magazine and the French Diapason d’Or. 

Bavouzet will be in South ֱ to perform as soloist with the South ֱ Symphony Orchestra on March 1. This lecture-recital is free and open to the public.
