Daphne Chapman Serles, a South ֱ State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts 1917 graduate, kept a scrapbook of her time at college, activities, and travelling with family and friends. One of the photos in this scrapbook is of two locomotives buried in snow. Written on the lower part of the photo is “Lemmon, SD.” The photo was taken ca. 1915-1920.
Daphne Chapman was born in 1894 at Alexandria. She has the honor of being SDSU’s first Hobo Day Queen, 1915. In June 1917 she married Earl R. Serles. Her husband was dean of the Pharmacy Department from 1923-1940.
