Winter is here! (1/18/24)

TBT- Winter is Here snow removal
The photo features several townsfolk shoveling snow off the sidewalks. The caption reads "After the blizzard of Tuesday February 9, 1909, Clark, S.D."

January and February embody the ideals of a Midwestern Winter. This week’s Throwback Thursday calls for all to help in the clearing of the remnants of a blizzard. In this photo postcard, taken by C.H. Miller of Clark, SD, five men and three women are shown cleaning a Clark business district. The title reads, “After the Blizzard of Tuesday, February 9, 1909, Clark, S.D.” Two of the women (shorter than the snowbanks) and three of the men hold shovels. The Sioux Falls Daily Argus Leader indicates that the blizzard raged February 8 and 9, 1909 from the Rocky Mountains to the Appalachians with extremely cold temperatures and significant snowfall. In fact, Sioux Falls received 21” of snow! Clark appears to have received a significant amount as well!
