Congratulations Class of 2022! You made it through years of study and just like this early 20th century class, it is time to start the next new and exciting adventures of your lives. This photograph shows the South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã State College of Agriculture & Mechanic Arts graduating class of 1916. It was taken June 7, 1916, on the roof of the Administration Building. In the background you can see the residential district between 9th Street and 10th Street (Harvey Dunn). This location today has the Alumni Association, The SDSU Foundation Building, and the new President’s House. Also, if you look closely, you will see telephone and electric poles indicating Brookings was quite a modern city!

Here is a fun photograph! This young fellow is taking his goats out for a leisurely drive. The nearly matching pair of goats are hitched to a child’s wagon. There are farm buildings in the background, yet the location and identification of the young driver is unknown.

Clifford has two feeding troughs set out for the birds. The chicks appear to be housed in an old kitchen that was repurposed as a chicken house.

The Miller Elevator Company owned nine elevators in South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã. This row of elevators is possibly near Andover. In many older photographs, you will see horse drawn wagons delivering grain to the elevator.  However, this photograph shows an IHC Type C Mogul gas tractor pulling five wagons to this 28,000-bushel elevator.

April is National Gardening Month. After a long cold winter everyone is ready for sunshine, warm breezes, and the chance to get dirt under their fingernails.

West Elevator in Albee was operated by J. C. Cahill. It was operated by horsepower. This elevator had a 10,000-bushel capacity. J. C. Cahill came to Grant County in 1889 where he was engaged in teaching until 1896 when he was accepted a position as a grain buyer for Northwestern Elevator Company.

Throughout the 1920s and especially the 1930s the Great Plains were hit by grasshopper invasions of varying intensity. Montana, Kansas and Nebraska all reported grasshopper damage to crops in the 1920s. The photographer, South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã State University agronomist Joseph G. Hutton, took this picture of a Douglas County sweet clover haystack that has been partially eaten away.

Written on the reverse of this cabinet card photograph is "Someones homestead in Lake Co." The two women sitting in chairs in front of their tar paper shack which is sodded part way up from the ground look ready for a good chat.

Huron College was founded in 1883 as Presbyterian University of South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã and located in Pierre. The City of Pierre agreed to furnish 20 acres of land and $13,000, if buildings worth $30,000 would be constructed by July 1884.

In 1910, Bryant, had seven elevator companies. Their combined storage capacity was 176,000 bushels of grain.
