Transportation Laboratory

A student working in the transportation lab

The Transportation Laboratory in Crothers Engineering Hall is integral for teaching transportation related courses and conducting research on transportation-related topics.

As much of transportation engineering is now done digitally, the desktop computers in the transportation laboratory are equipped with a suite of relevant software, including:

  • AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Highway Capacity Software (HCS)
  • ArcGIS mapping and spatial data analysis software
  • Statistical and data analysis software (SAS and R) for analyzing the wealth of transportation-related data

The transportation laboratory serves the freshman-level surveying course, the junior- and senior-level highway and traffic engineering courses, and various graduate-level transportation courses.

As the transportation engineering field is expanding to new horizons, the Civil and Environmental Engineering department intends to expand the transportation lab to serve the research and teaching needs in three main thrust areas: Data and Analysis, Automated Vehicle/Connected Vehicle and Visualization/3D Immersive Environment.
